Terminal servers

Optimize the use of hardware available in its facilities with a LSI-TServer

The Terminals

“An idiot? terminal is really a computer of very basic characteristics. It can be a computer especially designed for this aim, or can be a personal computer with or without storage units as Hard disk, Floppy disk or CD/DVD-ROM. In any case to these equipment it is called light clients or thin to them clients.

Two types of terminals, those of only text exist and the graphs. First they are typical of some electronic banks and tellers. Second they are used in an Intranet and they give suitable facilities to execute all type of applications.

One of the most interesting advantages to use terminals is that the user is not “married? with his equipment, since from any other can accede to its account, personal documents and configurations.

All equipment of calculation can be used as a light client, from a PC with a processor of 233MHz, 64MEGABYTE or 128MEGABYTE in RAM, video card, a unit of floppy disk and a card of conventional network to the most complete PC of the market.

The Servant

A terminal server has the capacity to give to service to a certain number of terminals of text or graphs. This capacity is determined by the characteristics of or the processors on which it counts as well as the ram memory available in the same.

Finally, the users in the terminals are “apparently? in front of the servant, using all the applications in him installed, as well as the space in hard disk, speed of processing, etc.

Our confirguración of terminal server LSI-TServer qualifies to appropriate hardware to take to end the following functions:

  • Boot, configuration and service for terminals based on personal computers
  • Service to thin clients dedicated with support for X-Windows
  • Control of users to the network of light clients:
    • Discharges, losses and modification of users
    • Discharges, losses and modification of user groups
    • Control of access to folders by user or group
    • Space available in hard disk by group or user
  • Access to resources of centralized and distribuído hardware:
    • Printers, in the servant and the light clients
    • Units of storage in the servant and light clients
(limited the capacity of the light client)
    • Scanners
(limited USB scanners in the light clients)
    • Audio remote
(limited the compatibility of the light client)
    • Recording units of CD/DVD in the servant
  • Access to Internet and e-mail
(if the servant is appropriately connected to Internet)

Benefits

  • Reaprovecamiento of obsolete equipment
  • Optimization of peripheral as printers and scanners
  • Unique cost by user since the terminal is not obsolete for being slow or to have few resources, is only replaced when it is physically damaged
  • The number of terminals and the capacity of processing can easily be extended updating the hardware of the servant
  • But “I cannot work so that my PC has failed?, since the user can accede to his documents from any other
  • For simple terminals that they do not share peripheral do not make lack special configurations, simply they are connected to the network and they operate right away
